A 16-year-old girl was seriously injured after being ejected from a moped in a crash on Route 15 South in New Canaan Monday afternoon, Nov. 10, Connecticut State Police said.
The crash happened around 1:25 p.m. near Exit 13, when a 17-year-old New Haven boy operating a black moped began merging into the deceleration lane for the off-ramp, according to a report from Troop G.
For an unknown reason, the driver lost control of the moped, causing his passenger — a 16-year-old New Haven girl — to be thrown from the vehicle.
She was taken by New Canaan EMS to Norwalk Hospital with life-threatening injuries, then transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital for a higher level of care, police said.
Route 15 South was closed for approximately 3.5 hours while the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad investigated. The crash remains under investigation, according to state police.
