A downtown Des Moines school has been evacuated and a road has been closed while emergency responders investigate the report of a natural gas odor.

According to the Des Moines Police Department, Walnut Street School has been voluntarily evacuated and Walnut Street has been closed between 9th and 10th streets.

Crews from MidAmerican Energy Company and the Des Moines Fire Department are on the scene.
