Within the first seven months of Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill’s term, New Jersey will be on the world stage, preparing for eight FIFA World Cup matches, including the final, that will take place in June and July of 2026.

Those matches will fall around the same time as the nation’s semiquincentennial, the 250th anniversary of American independence, on July Fourth. Sherrill’s first budget deadline — June 30 — will also be in the mix.
