An appeal over a rejected bid to build flats on an old police station site in Lambhill has been thrown out as the developer failed to provide “essential” details.

Planners had turned down an application to create 12 flats on empty land at Balmore Road as it was “significantly contrary” to Glasgow City Council policies.

There was also an objection from the Coal Authority, which said the site “lies in an area where historic unrecorded coal mining is likely to have taken place at shallow depth”.

Despite this, the applicant, Mohammad Dilshad Star, hadn’t provided a coal mining risk assessment. However, he did launch an appeal against the council ruling, which claimed the flats would “brighten the area up”.
