KNOX, Ind. -- The Knox Police Department reports two officers made a traffic stop at the BP gas station in Knox on Monday.

During the stop, police determined the driver was operating the vehicle while suspended prior.

Police also found an item in the driver's door which appeared to be a homemade pipe bomb.

Authorities say, as a precaution, the area surrounding the gas station was evacuated and the Porter County Bomb Squad was called to scene.

The bomb squad arrived and safely secured the device, which was determined not to be a bomb.

The driver was taken into custody without further incident and taken to the Starke County Sheriff’s Office for incarceration. Share
