Crandell, 50, was found dead by a maintenance worker inside the Family Health Center office in the Cheverly hospital, where she worked, around 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 13, 1998. She died by strangulation and had been sexually assaulted, an autopsy report found. No one was ever arrested for her death.
Now, 27 years later, police were able to find a suspect through genetic testing.
Baari Shabazz, 69, died in 2019. But after the Prince George’s County Police Cold Case Unit got court authorization to do genetic testing for this case in December 2021, it was reopened.
