Ontario’s police watchdog has cleared Hamilton police of wrongdoing in a crash this summer in which a stolen car struck a taxi and landed on the front porch of a home.
The driver of the stolen car, a 34-year-old man, suffered a fractured rib and the taxi driver suffered minor injuries in the July 23 crash.
Officers were on patrol around 11:40 p.m. in a marked cruiser when their vehicle’s automated licence plate reader identified a stolen Honda Accord that was westbound on King Street East, the Special Investigations Unit said in a report released Tuesday.

Police followed the car while awaiting confirmation that it was stolen.
