WINDHAM, CT (WFSB) - A woman from Windham is accused of starving a dog to death and leaving her in the crate on the side of a road, state police said.

Troopers identified her as 28-year-old Mariah Reeves.

According to Reeves’ arrest warrant, the dog, named Girl, was found on Oct. 23. She was dead in a crate along Route 32.

A necropsy report in the warrant stated that the dog had been dead 10-15 days and died of slow death of starvation.

Girl’s microchip led state police to her original owner.

However, the original owner told them that the dog was rehomed to a close friend. She had the text messages to prove it, state police said.

The original owner said that after Girl had puppies, she became over protective of her. She asked Reeves to take her,
