DICKINSON — On November 17, Stark County native Herb Rice will celebrate his 93rd birthday. For 68 of those years, Rice has dedicated his time to volunteering for the Dickinson Honor Guard, a group of veterans who provide military rites at local military funerals and present the colors at parades and gatherings.

Rice served in Korea for 16 months after volunteering for the draft in 1954 and attending training at an Army base in Missouri. In Korea, he served with the 7th Division Engineer Battalion. Rice grew up farming in South Heart, ND, and when he was discharged in 1956, he returned to the farm.
