Weekend vandalism at Finlay Park in Columbia has the city amping up security measures ahead of this weekend's reopening festivities.

Construction crews discovered spray paint vandalism inside the park early Sunday morning. Columbia Police Chief Holbrook said the image was some type of artwork and not a gang sign, and overnight security began Sunday and will continue throughout this week leading up to the grand reopening festivities that kickoff Saturday.

The city is also implementing a new clear bag policy starting Thursday, which has been met with some backlash. City Manager Teresa Wilson said the change is part of continued efforts to create a safe and family-friendly environment.
