LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - On this Veterans Day, a new name has been added to the Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

His name: Army Warrant Officer Conrad J. Wheeler.

Wheeler’s name was engraved into memorial ground, where a sundial will cast a shadow over his name.

Wheeler’s story

In October of 1969, Warrant Officer Wheeler was flying a helicopter over Vietnam when he was shot down and killed.

Wheeler grew up in Breckinridge County, but he moved to Texas and enlisted into the Army from that state. That’s why Kentucky didn’t have any information on him until his cousin brought it to the attention of the Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
