“That’s my wall. The premiers wall. Your wall. All for the veterans of Ontario.”

Those were the words of Lt. Gen. Richard Rohmer — Canada’s most-decorated citizen — after Premier Doug Ford granted a request from the general last year to engrave the name Ontario Veterans’ Memorial on the north side of the black granite monument at Queen’s Park — which was previously blank.

Rohmer, 101, chaired the committee that built the 30-metre memorial under premier Dalton McGuinty in 2006. During the Remembrance Day ceremony at Queen’s Park Tuesday, Rohmer regaled the story of his request to Ford and how the premier delivered.

“The premier in his ultimate wisdom agreed with me, he didn’t have much difficulty doing that. He said it could be done,” said Rohmer.
