Kitchener council wasn’t swayed by residents’ pleas Monday night as a plan to build an industrial park next to the Huron Natural Area received final approval.
Gateman-Milloy, which acquired the property that is already zoned for industrial use from the city a few years ago, intends to divide it into 10 smaller lots that could support as many as 1,800 jobs.
People opposed to development on the natural area’s borders pushed back Monday, as they had at a previous planning committee meeting , asking for the application to be turned down or at least deferred to allow for further review.
But council stuck to its approval of the request to divide the property, although the vote wasn’t unanimous, with councillors Debbie Chapman and Ayo Owodunni voting no; Coun. Stephanie Stretch wasn’t presen
