The first College Football Playoff rankings show suggested the 12-team field this season will have a heavy Big Ten and SEC presence.
To no surprise, the second unveiling of the CFP top 25 rankings brought the same takeaway.
For the second straight week, Ohio State was tabbed as the No. 1 seed in the bracket, giving the Big Ten a slight advantage over the SEC. Indiana stayed at No. 2 despite a near-upset at Penn State, while Texas A&M stayed at No. 3 after picking up its third-ranked win on the road. Alabama rounded out the top four at No. 4.
The two pressing questions entering the second unveiling were what the ACC’s CFP picture would look like after some unexpected upsets and who would represent the Group of 5. The CFP committee answered those by giving the ACC’s lone bid to the bracket to Georgia Tech, while South Florida was penciled in at the No. 12 seed after being listed at No. 24 in the top 25 rankings.
Remember, the second iteration of the CFP rankings, of course, won't mean much in the grand scheme of things when it is all said and done. The reason being is there remains some football to still be played before the only edition of the rankings that actually matter drop on Sunday, Dec. 7 with the final three weeks left in the regular season and conference championship games.
USA TODAY Sports provided live updates as the bracket was revealed on Nov. 11 by the CFP selection committee. Follow below for a recap:

CFP rankings release winner and losers
There was good and bad news delivered by the College Football Playoff committee in its second release of the season. The winners and losers include Indiana, which retained its No. 2 spot after a dramatic defeat of Penn State, and South Florida, which moved into the rankings at No. 24. On the downside, Brigham Young saw its at-large chances damaged with a five-spot drop to No. 12, and the ACC looks to be in difficult shape to get two teams in the field.
Oklahoma, BYU left out of CFP bracket after Week 11
With Miami and South Florida not being ranked in the top 12 of the CFP top 25 rankings, Oklahoma (No. 11 CFP ranking) and BYU (No. 12 CFP ranking) were the first and second teams out of the field, respectively.

College Football Playoff rules
Here's what to know about the CFP rules and CFP format for the 2025-26 College Football Playoff:
- The CFP selection committee selects 12 teams to the CFP field: the five highest conference champions and seven at-large teams.
- The Nos. 1-4 seeds will no longer be guaranteed to conference champions. The top four seeds instead will go to the four highest-ranked teams as ranked by the CFP selection committee in the final top 25, regardless of whether they won a conference championship.
- If one or more of the five highest-ranked conference champions finish outside the top 12 of the final CFP rankings, they will be slotted in as the lowest seeds of the field, depending on how many rank outside the top 12.
- The Nos. 5-12 seeds will play in the CFP first round, with those games taking place on the campus of the higher-ranked teams. The winner of the No. 5 vs. No. 12 game will advance to the quarterfinals and face the No. 4 seed, while the winner of the No. 6 vs. No. 11 game will advance to face the No. 3 seed in the quarterfinals and so on.
CFP committee selection chair discusses why Texas Tech is not in top 4 of CFP bracket
What is keeping Texas Tech out of the top four of the CFP bracket despite picking up a top-10-ranked win at home against BYU and being 9-1 on the season? Here's what CFP selection committee chair Mack Rhoades said on that:
"What a convincing win against BYU, both sides of the ball," Rhoades said on the show. "I think offensively in the red zone, they left some points off the board. kicked a lot of field goals. They are a very good football team. Their front seven defensively, we think, is as good as there is in the country. Behren Morton is playing with a bad leg. Really tough kid. Offensively is probably what has kept them out of the top four, top five."
CFP committee selection chair discusses Indiana staying ahead of Texas A&M
Why did Texas A&M not top Indiana for the No. 2 seed in the bracket despite the Aggies picking up another ranked win on the road and the Hoosiers nearly losing to a Penn State team that is winless in Big Ten play? According to CFP selection committee chair Mack Rhoades, it came down to the Hoosiers' body of work against Oregon and Iowa on the road:
"One of our longer discussions in our meetings," Rhoades said on the show to Rece Davis. "You think about Indiana's body of work and wins at Oregon, against Oregon in Eugene, (and) the Iowa win. We certainly looked at the Texas A&M win in South Bend (against Notre Dame), that's a big win for them. The win versus Missouri on the road, the committee talked a little about the Missouri team that they'd been. Playing their third quarterback, a true freshman. Indiana found a way to find a way. Mendoza down the stretch, second-rated quarterback efficiency (in the country). Those were all the things we talked about and gave Indiana the edge."
