Montreal commuters expressed relief Wednesday morning as bus and métro service returned to full swing.

The STM maintenance workers’ union had announced late Tuesday that it would suspend its strike , effective 6 a.m. Wednesday. Bus and métro service resumed soon after, though the STM warned that ramping operations back up to its usual levels would not be immediate.

The transit agency’s bus and métro operators still plan to strike this Saturday and Sunday, which could bring transit to a total standstill, so long as the union is given the green light from the province’s labour tribunal.

With the walkout letting up, “I can work my usual hours,” Manuela Cavalcanti said Wednesday morning, as she waited for the métro at Rosemont station.
