BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. (WNDU) - A woman who washed ashore from Lake Michigan more than 37 years ago has finally been identified, and Michigan State Police say it’s all thanks to advancements in forensic technology.
Known for decades as “New Buffalo Jane Doe,” the woman has now been identified as 71-year-old Dorothy Glanton of Chicago.
According to police, Glanton was reported missing after leaving her Chicago home on Dec. 9, 1987. On April 8, 1988, her remains were recovered along the shoreline of Lake Michigan near New Buffalo.
Despite extensive investigative efforts at the time, police say her identity could not be determined.
