CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Wednesday would not confirm whether there were plans to conduct a Border Patrol operation in Charlotte, North Carolina.

On Monday, Nov. 10, CBS News reported that U.S. Border Patrol agents were expected to conduct an operation in Charlotte this month.

Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary for public affairs with homeland security, issued a statement on Wednesday, Nov. 12 saying the department does “not discuss future or potential operations.” U.S. Customs and Border Protection is a federal law enforcement agency within the Department of Homeland Security.

Ahead of Wednesday’s statement, assistant secretary McLaughlin wrote, “We aren’t leaving Chicago,” on social media.
