A London man who was a teenager when he shot a man to death at a Sarnia-area First Nation was sentenced Wednesday to the maximum seven-year youth sentence for second-degree murder.
People wept in a packed Sarnia courtroom last month as the mother of David Oliver spoke about the grief , pain and fear she’s dealt with since her son was killed five years ago at Kettle and Stony Point First Nation.
“I know I’ll never be the same as I was before David was murdered,” Carla Oliver said.
Then she turned her attention to the man sitting in the prisoner’s box, who was 16 when he shot her 29-year-old son twice in the head at point-blank range in the summer of 2020, with no apparent motive.
“Our family was completely in shock when we were told you had committed this crime,” Carla Oliver said.
