SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (WMC) - A Southaven police K9, Dagger, faces a challenging recovery after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon . Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for the driver involved in the incident.

According to Southaven police, officers had pulled over Ronald (Bobby) Pilkington on Tuesday. During the stop, Pilkington fled the scene, hitting K9 Dagger in the process.

Dagger was immediately transported to an emergency veterinary clinic for his injuries. As of Wednesday, a department spokesperson reported that the three-year-old K9 is still in critical condition, having sustained several broken bones and requiring a blood transfusion.
