INDIANAPOLIS — Pedestrian deaths continue to be an issue in Indianapolis. Indy Pedestrian Safety Crisis has tracked 28 pedestrian deaths from 701 accidents so far in 2025.

A man hit in October on the city’s near south side is not expected to survive, his family now says.

Forty-three year old Jeffrey Gillard was walking to the bus stop at East Raymond and Shelby streets on Oct. 13 when he was hit by a pickup truck around 5:45 a.m. IMPD said the driver initially left the scene, but the driver returned and was cooperating with the investigation. Gillard was on his way to work.

Gillard was taken to the hospital with serious, critical injuries, his wife, Tracy Gillard, said. Those injuries included a brain bleed, broken neck, pelvis and leg.
