Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said that he made an “unfortunate error” when he okayed the appointment of Labour donor, David Kogan, as chair of the Independent Football Regulator.
In a letter to his ethics adviser, Sir Laurie Magnus, the Starmer said the appointment of the Independent Football Regulator’s chair is “a statutory decision” for Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy.
Sir Keir also said: “It is the case, however, that where an appointment is inextricably linked to the Government’s priorities, No 10 is engaged and updated throughout the appointment process.
"In this case the process was no different and follows a precedent set by successive administrations.”
The Prime Minister said he had agreed to “recuse myself from decisions relating to the Football Governance Bill”
