HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — Popular for fishing and seasonal fun, Lake Joy transforms into "Trails of Terror" each October.

But some residents say there's a real danger lurking on Lake Joy Road after dark. Since October 2024, Houston County 9-1-1 reported 86 overnight accidents on the road.

As night falls, the chances of crashes increase, and residents say it's time for streetlights.

Keith Kindle, who has lived on Lake Joy Road for 39 years, calls the road dangerous after dark.

"I've had my mailbox hit several times. I've actually had my mailbox hit while I was opening it," Kindle said. "After school and in the evening it can get kind of rowdy."

He believes streetlights could improve safety.

"Lighting things up might help that somewhat, as far as people running off the road," Kindle said
