JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The City of Jacksonville is taking a closer look at one of the biggest challenges facing working families: the high cost of child care.
On Wednesday, city leaders announced the launch of the Child Care Solutions Task Force — a new group of more than 20 members that includes parents, healthcare professionals, and community leaders.
The task force will meet every two weeks over the next four months to research, collect data, and develop recommendations aimed at making child care more affordable and accessible for Jacksonville families.
According to city data, the average cost of child care in Jacksonville is nearly $10,000 a year, making it the second-highest average among major cities in Florida.
For local mom Yasmina White, this issue hits close to home.
