EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The federal government is still shutdown but it may be nearing an end as House members are expected to vote and pass a bill to reopen the government after 43 days.
President Donald Trump says he will sign it, but the trouble caused by the longest shutdown in U.S. history could remain for awhile.
“We’ve only had government shutdowns since the 1980s and they are pretty rare, thank goodness. This is the longest one in history, and I think everybody’s relieved it’s about to be over,” Dr. Robert Dion, a political science professor at the University of Evansville said.
Dr. Dion explained while Republicans have the majority, Democrats were able to shut down the government in an effort to fight for the Affordable Care Act.
