U.S. Border Patrol agents, including some assigned to a unit known as Special Operations Detachment, are active in the Portland area and “are targeting and arresting” immigrants who may have a criminal record, immigration authorities confirmed this week.

U.S. Border Patrol, which falls under U.S. Customs and Border Protection, primarily operates within 100 miles of any international or coastal borders, and experts say the agency has generally operated along the Southern Border, and to some extent, on the Northern border of the United States. But its role has significantly increased under the Trump administration and border chief Gregory Bovino who has led “Operation Midway Blitz” in Chicago.
