DETROIT- The MLB announced the American and National League 2025 Cy Young winners on Wednesday and crowned Tarik Skubal with the award for the second straight season.
Skubal is now the first American League pitcher to win the award in consecutive years since Pedro Martinez in 1999 and 2000.
In his dominant 2025 campaign, Skubal posted a 13-6 record with a 2.21 ERA in over 195 innings of work. Skubal started 31 games and ended the year with a 7.3 K/BB ratio, a WHIP of .89, and a combined opponent average of .200.
Skubal is the cornerstone of Detroit’s pitching staff and helped lead the team to a return trip to the ALDS last season, though his future in Detroit remains uncertain. Tigers GM Jeff Grennburg refused to comment on whether Skubal has been mentioned in trade discussions, accordi
