PICKENS, S.C. —

Over the next several weeks, the city of Pickens, South Carolina, will restore and reinstall a historic warning siren to alert residents to potential life-threatening weather conditions.

Crews will install a fully restored Federal Signal STH10 outdoor warning siren on the water tank behind the shops on East Main Street.

The warning siren was originally used decades ago to alert firefighters to emergencies.

Officials said it will no longer be used for fire response notifications, but will instead serve the broader community by alerting residents to potential life-threatening weather conditions approaching the area.
