BUFFALO, N.Y. — A frustrated Buffalo Common Council voted to tap into the so-called rainy day fund in order to close out a $6.8M variance from the 2024-2025 fiscal year.
The vote comes after City Comptroller Barbara Miller-Williams formally requested that the Council utilize funds from the 'Committed Fund Balance,' commonly called the reserves or rainy-day fund.
The Comptroller formally submitted a letter with the request to the Common Council on Veterans Day, when all city offices were closed.
According to the city charter, a request of this nature needs happen within 120 days of the of the comptroller closing out the financials for the previous fiscal year.
