The United States is set to end its longest-ever government shutdown as the House of Representatives passed the new spending bill on Wednesday with 222 votes in favour and 209 against. The bill now moves to President Donald Trump, who is scheduled to sign it at 9:45 pm ET in the Oval Office, officially ending the 42-day shutdown.

The Senate passed the HR 5371 amendment on Monday to keep the federal government funded until January 30, 2025.

The shutdown, which began on September 30, stemmed from a prolonged standoff between Republicans and Democrats over the inclusion of health-tax credits in the spending bill.
