LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
A year after an explosion at the Givaudan plant, which killed two people and injured several others, the former HR administrative assistant Cherrice Johnson says the day remains ingrained in her mind.
She was at her office when the building shook. “And then boom, I got thrown against the wall. Ceiling caved in on me, on my back,” said Johnson, “I was thinking about my life. Will I be able to get out?”
Another employee helped Johnson escape. She was treated at the hospital for bumps, bruises, and a concussion.
“You see somebody every day, all day… People you talk to personally… And it’s just gone. Just like that. It’s just gone,” she said.
Johnson says grief and trauma still weigh on her.
