SALEM, Ore. (KPTV) - An advocacy group for immigrant communities said at least 24 people were detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Tuesday morning.
Oregon for All, a coalition of over 100 organizations, said witnesses told them ICE agents smashed windows of a van while some of the people were on their way to work.
The group also said witnesses saw ICE agents ram a car on Ward Street near the 76 gas station.
At least nine of the people arrested were farm workers, according to Oregon for All.
Jess Montonya, Oregon for All network director, said Tuesday marked the single highest day of detainments in the city in years.
“I think that we know there’s been an uprise in just the month alone in November, prior to the detentions that happened yesterday in Salem,” Montonya sa
