FX has canceled the comedy series "English Teacher" after just two seasons, despite its high profile, critical acclaim and fan support.
The show, which features Brian Jordan Alvarez as a high school English teacher in Austin, Texas, boasted a 98 percent Rotten Tomatoes score and major award nominations. The unexpected move comes just weeks after the second season debuted in September 2025.
"English Teacher" followed Alvarez’s character, Evan Marquez, as he navigated the complex realities of modern teaching.
The supporting cast featured Stephanie Koenig, Enrico Colantoni, Sean Patton, and Carmen Christopher. The series quickly found a loyal audience and was praised for its sharp writing and quirky performances.
FX has not officially commented on the reason for the cancellation. However, the decision closely follows sexual assault allegations against Alvarez by Jon Ebeling, his former collaborator and co-star from the 2015 webseries "The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo."
According to Variety, Ebeling first made the allegations on Instagram days before "English Teacher" premiered its first season, and later expanded on them in a December 2024 New York Magazine article.
After the allegations became public, FX reportedly scaled back promotion for the show’s second season. The network’s silence and the limited publicity led to growing speculation about the future of "English Teacher," even as it continued to earn rave reviews from critics.
