The Canary Islands continue to remain on high alert as Storm Claudia sweeps across the Spanish archipelago, bringing with it heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas.

Schools and universities have closed today and emergency crews dealt with blocked drains, fallen debris and minor flooding as the western Islands endured intense rain and strong winds overnight, Canarian Weekly reports.

On Wednesday 14 flights were diverted across the Canary Islands due to the adverse weather .

Storm Claudia is set to still have an impact on the islands on Thursday, November 13, before moving on. No further warnings have been issued for Friday, November 14.
