DETROIT — Tarik Skubal joined rare and elite company Wednesday night winning the AL Cy Young award for the second straight year.

He’s the first AL pitcher to go back-to-back since Pedro Martinez pulled it off in 1999 & 2000.

Skubal also became the second Detroit pitcher to go back-to-back.

Denny McLain won the Cy Young in 1968 & 1969.

Skubal took home 26 of 30 first place votes.

The Tigers ace finished the season 13-6 with a 2.21 ERA and 241 strikeouts over 195.1 innings of work.

The award now kicks off what will be an off-season of speculation surrounding the Detroit southpaw.

Skubal is under team control through next season, and there have been rumblings the two sides remain far apart on any kind of contract extension.
