At least two primary schools in Manchester have gone into "lockdown" this afternoon.

Officers rushed to Wood Street at around 12.10pm following reports that a man was making threats while shouting in the street.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "At around 12.10pm today (November 13), officers responded to reports of a man shouting and making threats on Wood Street, Middleton. Officers attended and a man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence. Enquiries are ongoing."

Bowlee Park Community School and St Mary's RC Primary School informed parents and carers that they had taken "lockdown" measures as a safety precaution, the Manchester Evening News reports.
