MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — The K-9 of a fallen Connecticut State Police Trooper who was retired to be with his handler's family has passed away.

State police said the K-9 passed away on Wednesday after a recent medical diagnosis.

K-9 Roso was assigned as a partner to fallen Trooper First Class Aaron Pelletier after both graduated from the Connecticut State Police K-9 Academy in December 2021, part of the 223rd patrol K-9 class. They became a certified Firearms Detection Team in February 2022, according to Pelletier's obituary.

"Throughout his career, K-9 Roso exemplified loyalty, bravery, and service. Beyond his professional achievements, he was a beloved companion and family member," Connecticut State Police said in a social media post on Thursday.
