Close to 1000 amendments to the proposed assisted dying law have been tabled in the House of Lords , marking the highest number ever put forward for a piece of backbench legislation.
Officials worked into the early hours of Thursday morning to compile the suggested changes to the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill , which returns to the upper chamber on Friday for a detailed line-by-line scrutiny from a committee of the whole House.
In September, the controversial piece of legislation moved a step closer to becoming reality after the second reading stage was passed. It followed an intense debate amongst bishops and peers.
The Bill proposes allowing terminally ill adults in both countries, with fewer than six months to live, to apply for an assisted death.
