LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - University of Kentucky students are playing a key role in making the Lexington Holiday Parade happen this year, getting real-world experience while bringing festive cheer to the community.

UK seniors Neely Rutland and Abby Alex are in the Communication College’s event-planning class, which lets them fully coordinate with Lexington Downtown Partnership to pull off the annual holiday parade.

The partnership between UK and the downtown organization has been bringing the parade to life for five years.

“It’s building our resumes and giving us that experience that we might have like in a job, coming up after college, like writing a news release, putting out social media, but also the networking aspect of it,” Rutland said.
