Less than a month after Alberta’s municipal elections, two new city councillors have stepped away from the Better Edmonton party after campaigning alongside them.
Ward Nakota Isga representative Reed Clark announced earlier this week that he was leaving the party to sit on council as an independent representative.
Additionally, Ward pihêsiwin Councillor Mike Elliott confirmed that he will be stepping away from the party for his term.
These leaves just one councillor, Karen Principe, representing Ward tastawiyiniwak for her second term, as the only councillor with ties to the party.
This is to be somewhat expected, however. During the campaign, party leader and mayoral candidate Tim Cartmell said that there were no expectations for the party to continue after the election cycle.
