The United Way of Bruce Grey is launching a new fundraising initiative this holiday season by collecting warm socks.

Fundraising Champion Kristy Andre says the Warm Sock Collection will be held during the annual Santa Claus parades across the region.

She says socks are the most requested items through their outreach markets, which are distributed to people facing homelessness or those in need.

“We go through around 100 a week and we have gone through 5,000 this year,” says Andre. “We thought if we are going to be in these parades, which we love to be a part of, why not add a little extra giving spirit to this and when people are going out to get their non-perishable food items fo
