SAN DIEGO ( Border Report ) — A former U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer was sentenced to 15 years in prison earlier this month for allowing vehicles packed with methamphetamine, heroin and fentanyl to enter the U.S.

Diego Bonillo admitted that he worked for a Mexico-based drug trafficking organization and accepted payment for using his official position as an officer to allow vehicles with drugs to enter U.S. without inspection at the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

According to the U.S. Attorney, he also acknowledged being part of a conspiracy.
