The planned homeless shelter at the library would not allow drug use, weapons or pets, Christopher Louras told the Public Safety Committee Thursday.
The first two were uncontroversial but the third saw some pushback as Louras briefed the committee and other city aldermen present about the plan, which would place an extreme cold weather shelter in the Fox Room of the Rutland Free Library. Louras, the city’s service officer, has been working with the Vermont Interfaith Alliance on the state-funded effort to establish the shelter. The committee voted unanimously to recommend moving forward with a grant application for the plan.
