Police in St. Paul are investigating the death of a man at a Payne-Phalen apartment complex on Friday morning.

Officers were called to a reported assault on the 1500 block of Westminster Street, and arrived to find the man with lacerations to his back and head.

Despite lifesaving efforts from officers and St. Paul fire medics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman who reported the assault was taken to Regions Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

"Investigators are working to determine what led to the man’s death. At this time, no arrests have been made," St. Paul PD said. "There is no threat to public safety."

The man's identity will be released at a later time by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office.
