The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has opened parking spaces for up to 25 trucks on Interstate 79 in Washington County as part of its statewide effort to improve driver safety by increasing truck parking.
The new spaces are located at the Interstate 79 southbound weigh station near mile marker 30 in Amwell, just south of Washington.
Truck drivers follow government-mandated hours-of-service rest requirements. For example, truckers transporting freight must take a 30-minute break after driving for 8 hours.
In total, PennDOT plans to create 1,202 truck parking spaces in 133 locations marked with signs throughout Pennsylvania by the end of 2026.
