ELLSWORTH — Several municipal election results across Maine have triggered recounts, including a tight Ellsworth City Council race that came down to just four votes.
Transparency was top of mind Friday as Ellsworth officials began the recount.
“We want to make sure that people know that their vote matters, that the vote counts,” Ellsworth City Manager Charles Pearce said.
Seven candidates were on the ballot for three open seats on the council. Initial results showed Patrick Shea, Carol Patterson-Martineau and Marinna Smith leading the race.
“The three candidates that were second, third and fourth place, all within four votes of each other,” Pearce said.
Pearce said John Linnehan, who came in fourth, requested the recount.
