HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - Car crashes can change the lives of families forever, and deadly ones can take months to investigate to get answers for grieving loved ones.
The Connecticut State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad, known as CARS, operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week to investigate serious crashes across the state.
“24 hours a day, 7 days a week, Christmas, New Year’s, you name it, we are called out,” said Sergeant Mark DiCocco, who leads the eight-detective unit.
The team uses new technology daily to figure out how serious crashes happen. A GPS unit helps document where evidence is located at crash scenes.
“It allows us to process scenes a lot faster than what we used to be able to do with tape measures,” said Detective Chris Ferreira.
