LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - 1.2 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes every year, according to the American Diabetes Association.
A 10-year-old from Lake Charles has been living with Type 1 diabetes since he was seven.
“To me, I think of it as God gave me it because he thought I was brave enough to take it on,” Type 1 diabetic McCoy Fontenot said.
Managing McCoy’s diabetes has been a journey for him and his mother, Sarah Fontenot.
Before he was diagnosed, she noticed him asking for water more than usual and using the bathroom frequently.
“It wasn’t like one of those things where we were like, ‘I need to bring him to the doctor.’ It was like ‘What’s going on?’ We were kind of confused, so I kind of started Googling, and it said the signs were like diabetes. I’m like, ‘Surely my
