HANNIBAL (WGEM) - Middle school students at Hannibal Middle School had the opportunity to learn some life-saving skills this week.
Around 70 kids in the Next Gen Prep class at HMS are now CPR certified.
Allysa Starbuck, American Heart Association coordinator at Hannibal Regional Hospital, was in charge of teaching students how to perform CPR on adults and infants.
“They’re learning how to recognize an emergency, what to do, calling 911 and pushing hard and pushing fast,” Starbuck said. “I mean, this can be the difference between someone living and someone not, so it’s pretty important stuff.”
Starbuck said the CPR certification age has recently been lowered to 12. Previously the age was 16.
