STATEWIDE -- The recent government shutdown , though now technically over, threw many things into limbo. One of them was SNAP benefits. Something the Governor's Office says nearly 12.5% of Mainers depend on.
In late October , while in the midst of the shutdown, $1.25 million from the governor's contingency account and the John T. Gorman Foundation were given to Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine and Age-Wise Maine, the state association for Maine's area agencies on aging.
"We immediately got into the planning mode," said Chris Street, Nutrition Services Director for the Eastern Area Agency on Aging (EAAA) .
Street says those funds were divvied up between the state's agencies. EAAA received $80,000 of those funds. Which has contributed to the creation of five grab-and-go, and café
