CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - More than 500 missing and murdered children in the United States remain unidentified and unaccounted for, with many families left without answers for decades.

Othram , a DNA lab in the Houston area, has solved some of the biggest unsolved cases in the country by identifying victims and suspects from crime scenes when traditional DNA methods fail.

The lab uses DNA evidence they said others couldn’t work with.

“Solving one case here or there is useful, but it isn’t going to change criminal justice,” said Dr. Kristen Mittelman, chief development officer at Othram. “Being able to solve every case that has DNA out there is going to change that infrastructure. It is going to allow people to realize that they’re not going to get away with murder anymore.”
